Doula is an ancient term that means ‘person of service’. This simple statement sums up the role.
You can engage with a Doula when you have been advised that you have a life limiting illness and are
about to undertake your treatment journey. All services provided by a Doula are relevant when you
are challenged by the big changes associated with illness. This is why I have the alternative title of
Day by Day Doula.
An End of Life Doula supports the dying person and their close network. This may happen through providing information and offering practical and emotional support. A Doula is completely guided by the dying person and/or their family.
A Doula is a non-medical role.
My fees are $60 an hours or packages are available, for example $500 for 10 hours. Fees are applied in 15 minute increments and rounded up or down to the nearest 15 minute period, for example – if I make a call to the client or on their behalf and the call lasts 10 minutes then I will charge for 15 minutes of my time. If the call lasts for 20 minutes then the same applies.
Currently there is no regulatory body overseeing this field of work. My professional background is as a psychologist and I am currently registered to practice in Australia and I obtained my Doula qualification through Preparing the Way https://preparingtheway.com.au/
